Former Aston Villa manager John Gregory has claimed that someone should be brought to book for the signings that the club made in the summer.

The Midlands outfit are bottom of the Premier League after 13 games and recently replaced sacked manager Tim Sherwood with former Lyon boss Remi Garde.

Gregory, who managed Villa from 1998 to 2002, has stated that the club's recruitment policy is to blame for their current plight.

"I said at the start of the season that the squad was totally lacking in experience, we are relying on 21-year-olds that have hardly had a game in France let alone the Premier League," he told Free Radio.

"You are only as good as the players you sign, I would like to know who signed them. I don't think Tim Sherwood signed too many of them I have to say.

"Whoever did sign them should be held accountable because there have been some very poor signings. You hope things are going to improve, but I can't see it happening at the moment."

Villa host Watford at Villa Park on Saturday.
