Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka admits that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - the man who replaced him as club captain - would be "a great loss" if he left this summer.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has admitted that the club would suffer "a great loss" if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left when the transfer window reopens.

Aubameyang, who was made club captain after Xhaka was stripped of the armband earlier this season, is approaching the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Talks over an extension have stalled, leading to speculation that the Gunners could look to cash in on their top scorer this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year.

"If that were to happen, it would, of course, be a great loss for the team and the club," Xhaka told SportBild.

"Auba is always dangerous and always good for a goal, and as a guy, he's also really great. He is always positive, optimistic, helpful and very professional."

Aubameyang has scored 61 goals in 97 games since joining Arsenal, including 20 goals in 32 outings this season.
