West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans has £3m relegation release clause?

West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans will reportedly have a release clause of just £3m if the Baggies are relegated from the Premier League.

West Bromwich Albion have reportedly considered selling Jonny Evans during the January transfer window because of a relegation release clause in his contract.

Evans is a key member of Alan Pardew's first-team squad at The Hawthorns, but the Northern Ireland international has been heavily linked with a transfer to either Arsenal or Manchester City.

The Baggies have publicly suggested that they would like to keep the 30-year-old in the West Midlands but according to Sky Sports News, it would come with a risk.

While Evans would allegedly cost in the region of £20m in January, the centre-back would be allowed to leave West Brom for just £3m if the club are relegated from the Premier League.

As it stands, West Brom sit in 19th place in the top-flight standings, three points adrift of safety, while Evans has just 18 months left on his existing deal.

The former Manchester United man has made 22 starts in all competitions this season.
