Arsenal 'preparing William Carvalho bid'

Arsenal reportedly prepare a £26.9m bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, who continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal are reportedly preparing a £26.9m bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

Carvalho, who was part of the Portugal squad that won Euro 2016, came through the youth system at Sporting before making his first-team debut in 2011.

The 25-year-old is contracted to his Portuguese club until the summer of 2020, but Newcastle United, Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Manchester City have all been linked with big-money moves for the defensive midfielder.

In March, it was claimed that Sporting had accepted that they would lose Carvalho in this summer's transfer window, and according to Record, Arsenal are hopeful of signing the powerful midfielder for £26.9m before the 2017-18 campaign.

Carvalho scored twice and provided three assists in 32 league appearances for Sporting last season.
