Stan Kroenke: 'Liverpool were never going to sell Luis Suarez to Arsenal'

Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke reveals that Liverpool were never going to budge on their stance of keeping Luis Suarez at Anfield, despite two bids from the Gunners.

Arsenal's majority shareholder Stan Kroenke has revealed that the club were "never" going to sign Luis Suarez in the summer due to Liverpool's tough stance.

The Merseyside outfit were adamant that the controversial Uruguayan was not going to be sold to the Emirates following two bids, one of which was £40,000,001.

Despite Arsenal's attempts, the North London outfit failed to land the 26-year-old, who returned to action for Liverpool this week following a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

"Look, Arsene [Wenger] had a view, our team had a view, they had a view and their view was 'he wasn't going anywhere'," Kroenke told The Telegraph.

"I never saw them waver from it. I guess at some level there is a number that gets anybody out of anywhere but there was nothing within the realm of what we knew about that could have got him out of there."

While they failed to sign Suarez, Arsenal did break their club transfer record by spending £42.5m on Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.
