Sol Campbell has insisted that he does not regret joining Arsenal from local rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The former defender was subjected to death threats when he left White Hart Lane for Highbury on a free transfer in 2001.
Campbell's defection to the Gunners was made more controversial after he had previously claimed that he would not leave Spurs for their bitter enemies.
While acknowledging that the move was bound to grab headlines, the ex-England international believes that it was a logical step in his career.
"It was a move that I needed to make," he told ESPN. "Going to Arsenal was a big progression for me. Everything about Arsenal was better than Spurs at the time from the players, management to the mentality of the club and the facilities.
"I wanted to improve myself as both a person and a footballer. It was a highly controversial move and Spurs fans have not forgotten it, but it was the best thing that I could have done for myself."
Campbell won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups as an Arsenal player.
