Porto show class to beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1

Two goals early in the second half from Jackson Martinez helped Porto on their way to a 3-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion in a pre-season friendly this afternoon.

Porto showed their Champions League quality as a brace from Jackson Martinez helped the Portuguese side to a 3-1 over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns this afternoon.

Alan Irvine handed starting places to four summer signings in his side's final pre-season game, but it was Porto who began as the better team.

Martinez found himself in space inside the opening two minutes, but he blazed his shot from inside the box high over the crossbar.

In the 15th minute, Danilo tested Ben Foster with a stinging 25-yard drive, but just seven minutes later the West Brom stopper was helpless to prevent Casemiro's close-range shot from a corner nestling in the back of the net.

Martinez continued to cause problems for the young Baggies defence and he held off the challenge of Craig Dawson before slotting in Cristian Tello, whose driven shot across goal fizzed wide of the far post.

Saido Berahino was lively for the hosts and had their first real chance of the game when he forced Andres Fernandez into a strong save.

Five minutes before the break, West Brom were level when Jonas Olsson forced the ball over the line from a corner.

However, shortly after the restart, Martinez was given plenty of room six yards from goal and made no mistake in nodding Ricardo Quaresma's cross beyond Foster to restore Porto's lead.

Just three minutes later, the Colombian striker grabbed his second goal of the game when he swept the ball home from Alex Sandro's cutback.

After 70 minutes, Porto broke quickly from a West Brom corner and Foster made a superb diving save to his right to deny Quaresma.

Then it was Sandro's turn to go close, but Olsson bravely flung himself in the way of the left-back's powerful eight-yard strike.
