Udinese went into the match with a poor recent record against the Rossoblu, but looked lively on with Roberto Pereyra and Luis Muriel aiming to break down both flanks.
Neither side looked likely to break the deadlock until 20 minutes from time, when a spectacular free kick from Alessandro Diamanti put the visitors ahead.
Francesco Guidolin's side looked out of ideas in the closing stages as they pressed desperately for an equaliser, until Di Natale's timely intervention five minutes from the finish.
The veteran turned home on his 300th appearance after a clever assist from Muriel, who managed to find the space to pick out his strike partner in a packed penalty area.
Di Natale made no mistake after collecting the pass, volleying in from close range to ensure that both sides had to settle for a hard-fought point.
