Erik Pieters yellow card transferred to Bruno Martins Indi

Stoke City confirm that the yellow card shown to Erik Pieters during the 2-2 draw with Leicester has been transferred to Bruno Martins Indi due to mistaken identity.

Stoke City have confirmed that the yellow card shown to Erik Pieters during Saturday's Premier League clash with Leicester City has been transferred to teammate Bruno Martins Indi due to a case of mistaken identity.

Referee Craig Pawson showed Pieters the last of nine yellow cards dished out during the 2-2 draw at the bet365 Stadium despite Martins Indi having committed the foul on Danny Simpson.

The decision was one of a number to be contested during the game, with Pawson showing a red card to Jamie Vardy which has since been appealed, and also awarding a controversial penalty to Stoke for a handball against Simpson.

After the match Pieters had told reporters: "It was not a yellow for me, I wasn't even close to this guy. I don't know what they're going to do with that but it was not a yellow card for me.

"There's a big difference between me and Bruno. Same colour, same hair, I think it's difficult to see..."

Pawson's performance during his previous match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United was also criticised, leading for calls for him to be stood down from the New Year's Eve clash between Liverpool and Manchester City.
