Harry Redknapp: 'You can't blame Tottenham Hotspur for Andre Villas-Boas sacking'

Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham Hotspur had no choice but to sack Andre Villas-Boas after a string of poor performances.

Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp feels that no "blame" should be attached to Tottenham Hotspur for the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

The former Spurs manager believes that the players brought in by the Portuguese did not "improve" the club despite the £100m outlay on signings this summer.

Redknapp told reporters: "You can't blame the club, with the amount of money they've spent on players. Unfortunately [Villas-Boas] bought a lot of players in that haven't improved the team. Whether he bought them or the sporting director did, who knows what goes on.

"They haven't improved the team enough. But they still have enough quality to finish in the top four."

Redknapp was in charge of Spurs from 2008 to 2012 and guided them to two fourth-place finishes.
