Mauricio Pochettino: 'We need to be careful with Dele Alli'

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino warns that Dele Alli must be carefully developed if he is to fulfil his potential.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has warned that Dele Alli needs to be carefully developed if he is to fulfil his potential.

The 19-year-old has impressed since breaking into the Spurs first team this season, earning an England call-up on the way to helping Tottenham climb into the top four.

Alli scored a stunning equaliser to win his side a point against Everton at Goodison Park this afternoon, and Pochettino does not see any reason why the youngster cannot maintain his form heading into Euro 2016 this summer.

"Yes [he can keep up this form] if he shows that in every training session he deserves to play, why not?" he told reporters.

"I think the goal was fantastic, a great goal. From the beginning we have had to take care of him. We need to be careful. That is important when they are young, to handle them in a good way."

Alli has now scored five goals in 18 league games this season.
