AS Monaco inflict first home defeat of season on Paris Saint-Germain

Monaco end PSG's 34-match unbeaten home league run courtesy of a quickfire second-half double to run out 2-0 winners over the French champions.

Paris Saint-Germain's 34-match unbeaten home streak in Ligue 1 has come to an end courtesy of a 2-0 victory for AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes this evening.

Laurent Blanc's side had not been beaten in front of their own fans in the league since May 2014, but goals from Vagner Love and Fabinho condemned them to just their second defeat of the entire campaign.

The hosts were dominant in the opening exchanges, but the first clear chance went the way of Monaco as Thomas Lemar failed to connect cleanly with Kylian Mbappe Lottin's cross to the back post.

It was PSG who continued to look the more likely, however, and a mistake from Ricardo Carvalho almost provided them with the opener, but Edinson Cavani could not keep his bicycle kick down.

The pressure continued to arrive from the capital outfit as back-to-back corners resulted in a goalmouth scramble, but Monaco survived as Love eventually hacked the ball away.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the next to threaten for the champions shortly before half time when a slick move culminated in Angel di Maria sending a cross into the middle that the Swede nodded over the crossbar.

The second half began in a similar fashion as Di Maria threaded a pass through for Ibrahimovic in the opening minutes, only for the striker to send a tame shot straight at Danijel Subasic.

A simple stop from Kevin Trapp to deny Tiemoue Bakayoko followed shortly afterwards, but the PSG keeper could do nothing to prevent the visitors from taking the lead 20 minutes into the half when Love peeled away from David Luiz before tapping Lemar's low cross in at the back post.

Luiz was at fault for the second just three minutes later too as he was caught in possession inside the area before dragging down Fabinho, who proceeded to calmly chip a Panenka-style penalty down the middle to double his side's advantage.

PSG tried to conjure up a late comeback to save their long home unbeaten run, but Jean Augustin's late miss from six yards when it was easier to hit the target suggested that it was not going to be the hosts' night.

If there was any doubt remaining then it disappeared completely shortly afterwards when, in the last minute of the 90, Ibrahimovic put the ball over the crossbar from five yards out with the goal gaping following Thiago Silva's flick-on.

That proved to be the last of the chances for either party as Monaco held on for the win, taking Leonardo Jardim's side five points clear of third-placed Nice.
