Dani Alves: 'Paris Saint-Germain have point to prove'

Defender Dani Alves says that Paris Saint-Germain are motivated to prove that they belong among European football's elite by beating Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Defender Dani Alves has called on his Paris Saint-Germain teammates to "seize the moment" in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Real Madrid.

PSG are regarded as one of the favourites for the competition, but the French giants currently trail the defending champions by a 3-1 margin after the first leg in Spain.

Alves has admitted that the Ligue 1 side lack opportunities to prove themselves on the biggest stage, but wants Unai Emery's men to rise to the occasion at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

At a press conference, the 34-year-old told reporters: "What are PSG missing? Matches like this to show that Paris is not all about money.

"I came here because I am a competitor – it's in my blood. And being part of the history of the club isn't something you can buy. If I speak to the squad, I'll say we have to seize this important moment. History is there to be changed.

"Changing history was one of the big reasons I came here and now we have to do it. We can't even think about it – we just have to do it. And we believe we can."

Alves has previously won the Champions League on three occasions, all with Barcelona.
