Niall McGinn thrilled to get off the mark to secure Aberdeen a point

The midfielder feels he has been getting closer to finding the net in recent weeks.

Niall McGinn welcomed the eventual arrival of his free-kick goal which secured Aberdeen a point in the Ladbrokes Premiership clash with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Saturday.

The home side went into the interval leading through a David McMillan header from a Liam Craig corner.

Dons boss Derek McInnes brought on Sam Cosgrove for Chris Forrester for the start of the second-half and the rejuvenated visitors levelled when McGinn curled a free-kick from 20 yards past Saints keeper Zander Clark.

The 31-year-old forward told Aberdeen's official website: "I was delighted to get that first goal of the season.

"I caught it well. I have been getting closer and closer with them this past number of weeks so I was delighted to hit the back of the net.

"We have to take confidence from the second-half performance, we played well to a man.

"We didn't really create as many chances as we would have liked in the first-half but to come back from a 1-0 deficit, I thought the boys showed good character."

St Johnstone winger Drey Wright looks forward a new experience when Saints take on Rangers at Ibrox next Sunday.

The 23-year-old winger joined the Perth club in the summer on a two-year deal from Colchester United and is enjoying life in Scotland.

He told St Johnstone's official website: "It is something to look forward to and for me personally as I have not played in a stadium that big and against a team of that size before so obviously it is one that I am looking forward to.

"But the job in hand is to go there and try and get the three points.

"It's been really easy to settle in and the boys have been brilliant.

"It was mentioned to me by a few people how good a dressing room it was, a few players that were here before and obviously the manager, and I have got no reason to disagree with them.

"The players, manager and all the staff have made it easy to settle in."
