Preview: Millwall vs. Wycombe Wanderers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Millwall and Wycombe Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Millwall welcome Wycombe Wanderers to The Den on Saturday afternoon looking to extend their seven-match unbeaten streak in the Championship.

At a time when the Lions are attempting to remain in the playoff picture, Wycombe are 10 points adrift of safety after losing three of their last four games.

There have been times this season when it appeared inevitable that Gary Rowett would be removed from his position as Millwall manager.

However, having stuck by their man during a run of one win in 15 matches, the Lions hierarchy have been rewarded with 15 points being collected from seven games.

Millwall still remain as outsiders for the playoffs, with the gap currently eight points to sixth-placed Bournemouth, but there are at least reasons for optimism heading into the final third of the campaign.

As well as scoring eight goals in 270 minutes of football, Millwall are ending matches on the front foot, a trait which could prove crucial later in the campaign.

While Jed Wallace is still the only player to score more than three times in the Championship, seven different players have contributed in the last three matches.

As far as Wycombe are concerned, Gareth Ainsworth has the unenviable job of trying to lift his players after their last-gasp defeat against relegation rivals Derby County.

The Chairboys had been on course for four points from two matches, but Andre Wisdom's goal for the Rams has derailed Wycombe's momentum before it had a chance to generate any real speed.

Wycombe now face a quartet of games against Millwall and three teams in the top six, and Ainsworth is aware that his team must get at least one victory on the board during that period.

While Wycombe can still take positives from their unlikely comeback at Huddersfield Town last weekend, retaining any faith in avoiding relegation could hinge on how they fare in their next game.

Team News

Despite the disappointment in midweek, Wycombe boss Ainsworth is unlikely to make many alterations to his team.

Fred Onyedinma and Admiral Muskwe are in contention for a recall in the final third, while Nnamdi Ofoborh could feature in midfield.

Alex Pearce is expected to come into the Millwall XI as a replacement for Jake Cooper, who sustained a shoulder injury in midweek.

The remainder of the team could remain the same unless Jon Dadi Bodvarsson gets the nod over Matt Smith in attack.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Bialkowski; Evans, Hutchinson, Pearce; Romeo, Thompson, Woods, Malone; Wallace; Smith, Bennett

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Allsop; Grimmer, Stewart, Tafazolli, Obita; Wheeler, Knight, Ofoborh; Horgan, Ikpeazu, Muskwe

We say: Millwall 2-0 Wycombe Wanderers

The manner of their defeat to Derby is unlikely to have a positive effect on Wycombe, particularly heading into a game with one of the form teams in the division. With that in mind, we expect a routine afternoon for the Lions, who should be able to control the action for much of the 90 minutes.
