Manchester United's Louis van Gaal: 'David de Gea situation is not favourable'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says that David de Gea's "situation" regarding a possible move to Real Madrid is "not favourable" for the club or the player.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has claimed that the transfer saga involving goalkeeper David de Gea is not a "favourable" situation for the player or the club.

The Spaniard is believed to be keen to sign for Real Madrid this summer, but so far an agreement between the two clubs is yet to be reached.

Early reports suggested that United wanted defender Sergio Ramos as part of the deal, but with rumours that the 29-year-old has agreed a new deal at the Bernabeu, that outcome appears dead in the water.

De Gea, who is believed to have rejected a new deal at Old Trafford, has played just 90 minutes of football during the Red Devils' pre-season tour in the United States.

After United's 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain overnight, Van Gaal told reporters: "We have a situation that is not favourable for David de Gea, but neither for us and neither for the club that maybe he wants to go [to]."

When asked if the situation would be resolved before the start of the season next week, Van Gaal replied: "We'll have to wait and see."

Rumours of De Gea's possible departure intensified when the club signed goalkeeper Sergio Romero on a three-year deal earlier this week.
