Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Astana

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Thursday's Europa League fixture with Astana.

Manchester United begin their first campaign back in the Europa League with a home encounter against Astana.

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have endured a mixed start to the Premier League, they still sit in fourth position with eight points from five outings.

However, given the club's upcoming schedule and lengthy injury list, the Norwegian must decide whether to take risks on a number of players who are closing in on a return to action.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for United ahead of the match at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Arsenal)

Shaw picked up his thigh injury against Crystal Palace last month, leading to suggestions that the left-back will spend five weeks on the sidelines. The England international may not be back in contention until the meeting with Arsenal on September 30.

Anthony Martial

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: September 22 (vs. West Ham United)

When Solskjaer ruled Martial out of the game with Leicester City, he suggested that the Frenchman will not be ready to return until Sunday's clash with West Ham, effectively leaving the forward out of contention for the meeting with Astana.

Diogo Dalot

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: Unknown

Diogo Dalot has yet to feature for United this season, with the youngster having flown out to China to undergo further treatment. No date has been set for his playing return.

Eric Bailly

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Bailly continues his recovery from a serious knee injury sustained in pre-season against Tottenham Hotspur. The Ivory Coast international is aiming to return around Christmas.

Jesse Lingard

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: September 19 (vs. Astana)

Lingard was forced to withdraw from international duty with England due to illness, which also kept him out of the game with Leicester. However, the midfielder should be in a position to play some part of Thursday's clash.

Paul Pogba

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: September 22 (vs. West Ham)

Like with Martial, Solskjaer has already spoken about wanting to get Pogba fit for the showdown with West Ham on Sunday. Barring a rapid recovery, the World Cup winner is unlikely to feature on Thursday.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Possible return date: Unknown

Fosu-Mensah remains on the sidelines as he continues to recover from a knee injury sustained while on loan at Fulham.
