Vincent Kompany: 'Manchester City are up for challenge'

Man City captain Vincent Kompany insists that they are up for the challenge of pursuing Chelsea in the Premier League title race following their 2-1 win over Swansea.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany insisted that they are ready to pursue Chelsea in the Premier League title race after a 2-1 win over Swansea City.

Goals from Stevan Jovetic and Yaya Toure saw City come from behind at Eastlands, and Kompany was encouraged by a more creative attacking performance.

He admitted that the eight-point gap to table-topping Chelsea, who beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 on Saturday, will be difficult to overturn, but the Belgian defender is optimistic that the champions can still make a success of their season.

"Given the last month we will take a win and it is good we are creating chances again," he told reporters.

"We have given ourselves a challenge but football is made of challenges. We can get a lot of good out of this year."

City travel to second-placed Southampton next weekend, but first play Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
