Leicester City undone by clinical Liverpool

Leicester City succumb to a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool in Tuesday's Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium.

Ten-man Leicester City put up a fight against Liverpool but were ultimately beaten 3-1 in this evening's Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium.

The opening stages of the game saw both sides come out quickly from their starting blocks, with Martin Skrtel heading wide from five yards out following Steven Gerrard's free kick.

Moments later, Leonardo Ulloa managed to find Jamie Vardy over the top, but the 27-year-old dragged his shot wide after beating Kolo Toure.

Esteban Cambiasso then missed a great chance to take the lead when he had an open goal to shoot at from around 30 yards following goalkeeper Simon Mignolet's miskick, but the Argentine sidefooted the ball wide.

However, the Foxes managed to take the lead a few minutes later when Ulloa's shot from a tight angle struck the post, but the ball deflected off the back of Mignolet before bobbling in the back of the net.

Leicester's defence has proved a weak point in recent games, and this was exposed again when Gerrard's free kick in the 26th minute was only half cleared.

Rickie Lambert went on to head the ball towards Adam Lallana, who subsequently finished off the move with a left-footed half-volley.

Six minutes before the hour, Liverpool went on to take the lead when Raheem Sterling's cross from the left flank was deflected into the path of Gerrard, who kept calm in the congested box to slot past Kasper Schmeichel.

Nigel Pearson's charges then shot themselves in the foot in the 63rd minute as Wes Morgan was shown a straight red card after pulling down Lambert, who had sprinted away from the central defender and looked on course to test Schmeichel.

The game hotted up as it reached the midway point of the second half, with Liverpool wanting a penalty when Schmeichel appeared to have brought down Jordan Henderson, but Lee Mason waved away the appeals.

Leicester then countered, with Jeff Schlupp delivering a cross which reached Cambiasso, but his effort struck Vardy in a congested penalty area and went no further.

As the match headed into its final stages, Liverpool struck the decisive blow when Henderson collected Sterling's back-heeled pass following a Schmeichel error to blast home and secure all three points.
