Gervais Martel seeking Lens cup progression

Lens coach Gervais Martel believes that his side can go on to beat Monaco in the next round of the Coup de France.

Lens coach Gervais Martel has said that he believes his side can go on to beat AS Monaco in the next round of the Coup de France, after knocking out Lyon on Thursday night.

The visitors grabbed a shock 2-1 win against the Ligue 1 club, thanks to goals from Pierrick Valdivia and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

"Now that we've won in Lyon, I don't see why we can't go and win in Monaco too," Martel said after his side's victory.

"Winning here even though we're a Ligue 2 side, that's something fantastic. But the objective is to be back in Ligue 1 next season."

Lens currently hold third position in the Ligue 2 table.
