Leeds United make approach for Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke

Bristol Rovers confirm that Leeds United have approached them about speaking to manager Darrell Clarke.

Bristol Rovers have confirmed that Leeds United have made an approach to speak to manager Darrell Clarke.

The Whites, who are looking to replace Steve Evans, were reportedly rejected by MK Dons manager Karl Robinson yesterday after he held talks with Leeds owner Massimo Cellino.

Now, the Championship outfit have switched their attention to Clarke, but the Gas are unhappy with Leeds's attempt to speak to their boss.

The League One club have also made their intentions known by confirming that they have offered Clarke a new three-year contract.

A statement via the club's official website read: "Bristol Rovers can confirm that they have received an approach from Leeds United to speak to Darrell Clarke regarding him taking over as manager at Elland Road.

"As yet, the Yorkshire side have failed to meet the conditions set out by Rovers to enable any talks to take place and until that happens there is nothing else to report.

"We can also confirm that Rovers have offered Darrell a new and improved three-year contract to remain as Bristol Rovers manager. Bristol Rovers will not make any further comment until, and unless, there have been any further developments."

Clarke has been in charge of the club since 2014.
