Preview: Hull City vs. Leicester City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's pre-season clash between Hull City and Leicester City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Hull City and Leicester City will continue their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign with a pre-season friendly at the MKM Stadium on Wednesday night.

The home side beat Malaga 3-1 in their last match on Saturday, while Leicester, who will start their new Premier League campaign on August 7, drew 3-3 with OH Leuven last time out.

Hull started their preparations for the 2022-23 season with a 2-0 defeat to Fenerbahce on July 10 before running out 3-1 winners over Malaga on Saturday afternoon, with Lewie Coyle, Jacob Greaves and Alfie Jones on the scoresheet for the Championship side.

The Tigers now have three more friendlies against Leicester, Cambridge United and Peterborough United before opening their 2022-23 Championship season at home to Bristol City on July 30.

Shota Arveladze's side finished 19th in the Championship last season, 14 points clear of the relegation zone, and there is no question that they will be looking to push higher up the table this term.

Hull have been busy this summer in terms of incomings, with Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, Ozan Tufan, Jean Michael Seri, Oscar Estupinan, Tobias Figueiredo and Nathan Baxter moving to the club.

There has been a major outgoing in the shape of Keane Lewis-Potter, though, with the 21-year-old making the move to Premier League side Brentford.

Leicester, meanwhile, started their pre-season with a 2-1 defeat to Notts County on July 9 before drawing 3-3 with OH Leuven on Saturday.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy were on the scoresheet for the Foxes, who have another four friendlies before opening their 2022-23 Premier League campaign against Brentford on August 7.

Brendan Rodgers's side will take on Derby County and Preston North End in two friendlies on the same day on July 23 before ending their pre-season against Sevilla on July 31.

Leicester are yet to make a first-team signing this summer, while Edin Jakupovic has been their only departure until this point, so it has been an extremely quiet transfer window for the club.

There are expected to be incomings before the end of the transfer window, though, as the Foxes look to improve on the 2021-22 season, which saw them finish in eighth spot in the Premier League table.

Team News

Hull's starting side is likely to be similar to the one that took to the field for the first whistle against Malaga, with Estupinan featuring in the final third of the field.

Tufan is likely to be handed a spot in midfield, while Sayyadmanesh is also expected to start, with the 21-year-old joining the club on a permanent basis from Fenerbahce this summer.

Seri has arrived on a free transfer from Fulham and should also start, while on-loan Nottingham Forest defender Figueiredo is also likely to feature in the first XI for the Foxes.

As for Leicester, Kasper Schmeichel is yet to feature for the team in pre-season, having been given a longer period off, and it remains to be seen whether he is involved in this contest.

Daniel Iversen could again start between the sticks, but it will be a familiar side elsewhere, with Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana likely to continue in the middle of the defence.

Daka and Vardy could be joined in the final third of the field by Harvey Barnes, while Youri Tielemans is expected to start despite the ongoing speculation surrounding his future at the club.

Hull City possible starting lineup:
Ingram; Jones, Figueiredo, Greaves; Coyle, Seri, Tufan, Elder; Longman, Estupinan, Allahyar

Leicester City possible starting lineup:
Iversen; Pereira, Fofana, Evans, Justin; Soumare, Dewsbury-Hall, Tielemans; Barnes, Vardy, Daka

We say: Hull City 2-2 Leicester City

Both managers will view this match as valuable preparation for the new campaign, and we are expecting an entertaining match on Wednesday night. There are certainly goals in the two teams, and we are predicting a high-scoring draw at the MKM Stadium.
