German Burgos: 'Fernando Torres deal is close'

Atletico Madrid assistant manager German Burgos says that Vicente Calderon hero Fernando Torres is close to rejoining the Spanish club.

Atletico Madrid assistant boss German Burgos has claimed that they are close to officially re-signing Fernando Torres.

Speculation of an Atletico return for Torres has gathered of late and now Burgos has said that the Spanish outfit are "on the verge" of bringing the striker back to the Vicente Calderon on a loan basis.

"We're on the verge of closing the deal and just waiting for confirmation," he said after a charity match in Fuenlabrada.

"He'll be be a very important reinforcement for the second half of the season. We'll get the best out of him, as we do for every player. He knows where he's coming to."

Torres is currently contracted to Chelsea, but has been on loan at AC Milan since the start of the season.
