The Premier League takes the decision to postpone the upcoming fixture between Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace due to a rail strike.

The Premier League has made the decision to postpone the fixture between Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.

Ahead of the upcoming international break, both teams would have been hoping to end the recent hectic period on a high with victory at the Amex Stadium on September 17.

However, the fixture on the South Coast will no longer take place due to the rail strike which is due to be staged on the same day.

A Premier League statement read: "Following a request to the Premier League Board by Brighton and Hove Albion F.C, the club's home fixture against Crystal Palace F.C, due to be played at 15:00 BST on Saturday, 17th September, has been regrettably postponed.

"The decision follows exceptional circumstances relating to the planned industrial action on the rail network, with authorities unable to sanction the fixture to be played with no public transport available for supporters.

"The Premier League has consulted with both clubs, police, the SAG for Brighton & Hove City Council and other relevant authorities in exploring alternative plans but all have agreed there was no other option but to postpone the fixture.

"A new date for the rescheduled match will be announced in due course."

The announcement comes on the same day that Brighton have reportedly given permission for head coach Graham Potter to hold discussions with Chelsea regarding their vacant managerial position.

At a time when Brighton sit in fourth position in the standings, Palace are down in 15th spot after prevailing in just one of their opening six games.
