Conference Premier roundup: Barnet maintain seven-point lead

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's action in the Conference Premier as leaders Barnet retain their seven-point advantage over Bristol Rovers by beating Woking.

Barnet have maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the Conference Premier table after recording a 2-1 victory over 10-man Woking.

After Joe McNerney was sent off while conceding a penalty in the first half, the Bees took full advantage as John Akinde and an own goal from Joey Jones earned them the three points.

Bristol Rovers ensured that the gap between first and second remained the same after Lee Brown and Nathan Blissett netted first-half goals to help their side to a 2-0 win against Lincoln City.

Macclesfield Town have overtaken Grimsby Town to move into third place as two late goals from Matthew Barnes-Homer gave them a 3-2 triumph over Welling United.

Grimsby suffered a 2-1 reverse at Forest Green Rovers to not only drop down to fourth spot, but allow Rovers to move to within three points of the Mariners in the standings.

At the bottom of the table, Alfreton Town recorded an important 4-2 win over relegation rivals Southport to move to within four points of safety.

AFC Telford United looked on course to match Alfreton's success, but they were pegged back by Eastleigh in the closing stages before the game eventually ended as a 3-3 draw.

In the other fixture played on Saturday afternoon, a goal from James Lawrie was enough to earn Altrincham a 1-0 victory over Aldershot Town.
