David Seaman: 'Arsenal need more signings to be ready for new season'

David Seaman believes that former side Arsenal need strengthening all over the field, but particularly in central defence where a "dominant" player is required.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has urged Arsene Wenger to land a "dominant centre-half" in the transfer market if he is to mount a serious title charge.

The 52-year-old, who spent 13 years in North London, also wants to see the Gunners bring in a striker and midfielder to lift the team all over the field.

Arsenal have signed just one senior player this summer, having secured the signature of Switzerland international Granit Xhaka before he headed off for international duty at Euro 2016.

It has remained quiet on the transfer front since then, though, with Seaman concerned by the club's lack of new arrivals over the past month.

"We still need a dominant centre-half," he told talkSPORT. "We'll see what Granit's like in midfield, but ideally we need someone like Patrick Vieira. And a striker as well.

"He needs to buy someone to give the club a lift and give the fans a lift. Ideally a striker would be great, but either a centre-half or midfielder would do for me.

"The thing is a lot of the players who played in the Euros are not going to be ready for the start of the season, and that's going to mean we are going to have a weakened team."

Arsenal welcome Liverpool on the opening weekend of the 2016-17 season, aiming to go one better than last time out when finishing second to Leicester City.
