Mikel Arteta: 'I have been surprised by Danny Welbeck'

Mikel Arteta admits that he has been surprised by Danny Welbeck since the forward's move to Arsenal in the summer.

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has admitted that he has been surprised by Danny Welbeck in the early stages of the striker's career at the Emirates Stadium.

Welbeck has scored five goals in 12 appearances since leaving Manchester United to join the Gunners, and Arteta believes that there is a lot more to come from his teammate.

"I think Danny is the perfect fit for us, [with] the kind of character he is and the kind of player he is," the Spaniard told the club's official website. "Personally I have been surprised by his technical capacity, the way he understands the game, his work rate.

"I rate him more now than I used to and this is a good sign because normally the opposite is true when you watch a player on a daily basis. I'm glad he is with us.

"He has got everything here to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League."

Welbeck is expected to recover from a hamstring strain in time to face his former club in the Premier League on Saturday.
