Borussia Dortmund travelled to 1860 Munich in the second round of the DFB-Pokal and needed extra time in order to get through 2-0.

The hosts were rigid at the back and frustrated Dortmund for 90 minutes, with Marco Reus coming closest with a free kick that hit the bar.

However, in extra time Dominik Stahl brought down Reus in the box and got himself sent off, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring the penalty.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan completed the scoring by finishing off a fine counter-attacking move. Read how Dortmund qualified with our live text commentary below.

Hello German football fans! We move away from the Bundesliga for tonight and have the DFB-Pokal as 1860 Munich host Borussia Dortmund.

On paper, this is a tough encounter for Dortmund. The hosts are fifth in 2.Bundesliga and they will be looking to take advantage of any nerves following Dortmund's sudden dip in form.

Before I delve further into the pre-match, I need the team news to help me. Coming right up...

1860 XI: Kiraly; Volz, Wojtkowiac, Bulow, Schindler; Stahl, Stroppelkamp, Adlung, Wannenwertch, Stark; Lauth

DORTMUND XI: Langerak; Durm, Sokratis, Hummels, Grosskreutz; Bender, Sahin, Blaszczykowski, Mkhitaryan, Reus; Lewandowski

So looking at those teams, Jurgen Klopp is only a couple of players away from naming a full-strength side. Mitchell Langerak continues in goal and Lukasz Piszczek is still out, but Robert Lewandowski returns to the lineup as well as Henrikh Mkhitaryan - Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang makes way for him.

As a Fulham fan, it's marvellous to see Moritz Volz once more. The right-back is an absolute pro and is one of those players who always ends up in the wars. He has a big task tonight against Reus on the Dortmund left.

The odds also suggest - if you didn't think so already - that the hosts are up against it tonight. You would get £11 from a single one if you back them and win tonight, while 2/7 on Dortmund is barely worth it.

KICKOFF: We are underway then, and Dortmund are on the ball early on.

Early semi-chance for Mkhitaryan who goes for a header from a Blaszczykowski cross, but Bulow is in bravely to head behind. Lots of passing from the visitors here, as you might expect.

CHANCE: I think Lewandowski should have gone for goal there. Blaszczykowski again does really well and gets to the byline. Lewandowski rises to meet his header but heads it down across the box for nobody rather than going for goal.

No further chances in the last few minutes, but it's as if the pitch is only half size. I don't think I've even seen the half-way line yet as Dortmund have set up camp in the 1860 half.

Everyone in yellow is getting a tough on the ball in every attack, such is Dortmund's patience. Eventually Reus's runs out but his shot from about 25 yards is quickly closed down. For all their possession, there hasn't been a genuine opening yet.

More intricate passing football from Dortmund, but 1860 have been really impressive at the back. There is no way through at the moment when Dortmund near the final third.

CLOSE: That's much better for the away side. Reus controls a fizzed angled ball from Sahin superbly and having cut inside puts his effort just wide of the far post. Having got into the shooting position he'll think he should have hit the target.

Lauth is almost in there from Stark's pass, but is given offside. I thought it was close and the replay suggests that he was just on. They're unlucky there, 1860.

Poor from Wojtkowiac. It's rare that Munich get forward, but you have to make the most when you do. He inexusably runs the ball out of play under no pressure at all.

Mats Hummels breaks forward like the Kaiser, but his ball over the top into the box is dreadful and goes out of play. A little better from the hosts, though, as they win a throw high up the pitch but it comes to nothing.

Here they come again down the left as the ball is played in to Lauth, but he's marshalled well by Hummels and Dortmund win it back. Volz gets away with a foul on Blaszczykowski, who has drifted to the left.

This has been hugely disappointing so far. Obviously 1860 will try to be solid at the back to win by the odd goal, but Dortmund have not done nearly enough to break them down so far with the talent on the pitch.

Blaszczykowski gets his free kick this time, back on the right, as he's just too fleet-footed for Bulow. Reus swings it in and it's headed behind by Stahl.

Sokratis is penalised for a foul on Kiraly, but really he just leapt incredibly high. He only had eyes on the ball but as always the goalkeeper gets the decision.

CHANCE: Chance for the hosts there as Stroppelkamp bursts down the left at pace and gets his cross in. It was just Lauth in the box , however, as Hummels heads behind. From the corner it could be 1-0! Stahl met it but could only nod it low and just wide. What a chance.

It's a really good atmosphere inside the Allianz Arena - easily as loud as a Bayern game. There was a quiet spell, but since the chance a few minutes ago the crowd can sense an upset.

Just two minutes to go in this one then and I expect there to be a lot of noise should it stay this way at 45 minutes. No reason why it wouldn't as Dortmund do not look like scoring at all at the moment.

Mkhitaryan escapes a booking for clipping Wannenwertch as 1860 looked to break. It comes in and Langerak gets his first touch with a good claim.

HALF-TIME: 1860 Munich 0-0 Borussia Dortmund

Well, that will not please Klopp as the floor is lifted up for him to go down to the dressing room. Dortmund have dominated possession, but haven't done enough to warrant being in front.

The hosts can be pleased with their work so far. It hasn't been pretty keeping out their more illustrious opponents, but it has definitely been effective and they could even have gone in front through Stahl from a corner.

Even how it is standing I'd still be very surprised if the hosts managed to take this one to extra time. Dortmund still have a huge amount of talent on the field and if they get the first more gaps will open for them to exploit.

We're just about ready for the second half. Klopp might well want to bring on Aubameyang for some more pace to see if that might help to unlock 1860. Perhaps that will happen nearer the end, however, when legs are tiring.

KICKOFF: We're back underway. You'll be pleased to know that it looks as though Kiraly has put his leggings on.

Odd clearance from Adlung, who scissors it clear to the delight of the home fans. The game has settled right back into the same pattern, however, with Dortmund seeing all of the ball early on.

OFF THE BAR! Dortmund so close to the equaliser. Schindler with a terrible headed clearance and it falls to Blaszczykowski, who takes a touch with his left before rifling it against the bar with his right. Close, but he should have scored.

It's still a swarm of yellow around the ball as the visitors patiently probe. All too often they run out of ideas and put it into the box from deep, however, as another one goes into the arms of Kiraly.

SAVE: That's the first proper save from Langerak, who was equal to Lauth's effort and managed to hold on. There's the sign of the threat for Dortmund if they cannot score.

CLOSE! How has that not gone in? Grosskreutz has to shoot, but instead he passes for Lewandowski, who is caught unawares. Grosskreutz cuts it across the middle for a tap-in but the Pole was expecting the shot so fluffed his lines somewhat.

The hosts are enjoying their best spell of possession since that chance for Dortmund just now. They too, however, are struggling with their final delivery as Lewandowski overhits his first touch on the break.

I'm really not convinced with Dortmund's finishing tonight. Blaszczykowski is in the box again, but this time tries to place an effort through a sea of bodies and it gets blocked. Of course.

The casual Klopp in cap and hoodie does not look impressed tonight. The way this stands it's heading to extra time and he could really do without that. Kiraly is down bravely to get the ball from Reus as he broke into the box.

DORTMUND SUB: Sven Bender, who has found it tough tonight, makes way for Jonas Hofmann. He has the ability to change games as he has already shown this season.

DORTMUND SUB: Sven Bender, who has found it tough tonight, makes way for Jonas Hofmann. He has the ability to change games as he has already shown this season.

SAVE: Hofmann is straight into the thick of the action and shoots from just outside the box. Kiraly is there and managed to punch into the air and away, but that's a sign of intent that will please Klopp.

Dortmund win a corner and it's again Hofmann at the heart of it as he spins and drives to the goalline. From the corner Hummels meets it but heads into the ground and wide.

What a ball that is from Kuba! he drives into the box and shimmies wide to get himself the angle for a fizzed low cross right across the six-yard box, but no man in yellow is hurling himself at it as he should.

A rare foray forward sees Stroppelkamp try to get past Durn, but the young full-back deals with the threat with calmness. At the other end Grosskreutz crosses but it goes out for a corner on the far side off Volz.

Extra time would be another 30 minutes that Dortmund don't need with their busy first half of the season. Mkhitaryan crosses low from the byline and once of the line of defenders hacks it up and away somehow. They are living very dangerously now.

Eight minutes left now and Dortmund's attacks are looking less and less threatening. I can't see them conceding, however, as 1860 have not really had a genuine chance. Sahin picks up the ball and drives his side forward.

Half-chance there as Reus does superbly to junk down the left and cross, but it was slightly behind Lewandowski who could not gather. A shot there from Sahin from ridiculous range goes well wide and sums up the visitors' night so far.

Another fine tackle there from Wojtkowiac who wins the ball from Blaszczykowski and puts it out for a corner. It comes in and Hummels once more rises highest but puts it many yards over the bar. Kiraly told to hurry up by the referee.

BOOKING: Finally the first card of the game and it goes to Volz, who clipped Reus from behind. He doesn't complain. Reus will step over it.

BOOKING: He is quickly followed into the book by Blaszczykowski as he left his foot in. Slightly harsh, perhaps, as he has been taken down a number of times. Stroppelkamp steps over it...

What a saving tackle from Volz. The ball is played on the break to Reus but Volz beats him to it and puts it out of play. Two minutes of time added on here.

A flurry of late corners here from Dortmund. This must be the last one now...

END OF NORMAL TIME: 1860 Munich 0-0 Dortmund

Well 1860 celebrate and why not? They have earned that, but there is still more work to do. Klopp is berating his side in the break, while Friedhelm Funkel has his arms around his players. Is there more drama here?

KICKOFF: Here we go then, Dortmund kick us off. Still no changes from the hosts.

POST! What a waste from Lauth! Stroppelkamp turns magnificently on half-way and played it through to Lauth. He has support bombing forward but turns back and into trouble. At the other end Reus's shot is deflected and Kiraly toes it on to the post!

POST! What a waste from Lauth! Stroppelkamp turns magnificently on half-way and played it through to Lauth. He has support bombing forward but turns back and into trouble. At the other end Reus's shot is deflected and Kiraly toes it on to the post!

BAR! Reus is out of luck tonight isn't he? He strikes a wonderful free kick but sees his effort crash against the bar and back into play! The hosts must think this will be their day.

DORTMUND SUB: Blaszczykowski has finally run out of gas. He has played superbly but now Aubameyang comes on. That will terrify the 1860 defence now as Aubameyang is rapid. Absolutely rapid.

Munich's only hope here is to hang on for penalties. They have never looked like scoring and that is not about to change. Their defence remains firm, and if that carries on for another 18 minutes they will have as much of a chance as Dortmund.

PENALTY TO DORTMUND AND RED CARD!

He has to go. Lewandowski plays Reus in and his legs are taken away by Stahl. A penalty would suffice, but rules is rules and he has to walk.

GOAL! 1860 Munich 0-1 Dortmund (Aubameyang pen)

The Gabonese sends Kiraly the wrong way and with a goal lead, an extra man and just 15 minutes left Dortmund surely won't lose this now.

HALF-TIME IN EXTRA TIME: 1860 Munich 0-1 Borussia Dortmund

A ridiculous three minutes of stoppage time are played at the end of that half, with Lewandowski coming off for Schieber as well.

We start again and the emergy seems to have been sapped from the hosts. It's harsh on them for the way they defended, but Dortmund really do deserve to be winning.

GOAL! 1860 Munich 0-2 Dortmund (Mkhitaryan)

Counter-attacking football at its very, very best. Langerak hurls it to Hofmann on the right and he drives forward before playing across the edge of the box to the Armenian. He beats Kiraly to it and then cuts inside a defender for a tap-in. Marvellous stuff.

Dortmund are just passing it about nicely, running the clock down. The referee might as well blow the full-time whistle.

OFF THE BAR! Another unbelievable strike from a free kick from Aubameyang this time and he rattles the bar with his effort from some way out.

FULL-TIME: 1860 Munich 0-2 Dortmund

Well it took longer than expected but Dortmund are through. Eventually their dominance was enough and they go into the third round.

Thanks for joining me tonight. That's all from the DFB-Pokal for the evening, but please do stick around on site for reports and reaction to all of tonight's football. Goodbye.
