Team GB's quartet of triathletes have produced a dominant performance to win the inaugural Olympics mixed race gold in Tokyo.

Jess Learmonth, Jonny Brownlee, Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee notched up the seventh gold of the Games for GB with a finish of 1:23.41, 14 seconds ahead of Team USA.

For Brownlee, 31, who was competing in his final ever Olympics event, he becomes the first person ever to claim three triathlon medals at the Olympics, adding to his bronze from London 2012 and silver from Rio 2016.

In the anchor leg, Yee faced a strong challenge from Vincent Luis of France and was momentarily overtaken during the bike race but then executed a sublime transition heading into his best leg, the run, and from there on there only looked to be one winner.

Fatigue seemed to catch up with Luis, who surrendered second position to the USA's Morgan Pearson, who in turn was unable to mount a late comeback and overhaul Yee as the 23-year-old strode home, running the 2km in a time of 5:28.

The gold ends a successful triathlon performance for Team GB in Japan, adding to Yee and Taylor-Brown's individual silvers and cementing GB's position as the most successful ever country in the triathlon programme at the Olympics.
