Oliver Golding edged out by Igor Andreev

Oliver Golding surrenders a one-set lead to exit Wimbledon at the hands of Igor Andreev.

Oliver Golding's first appearance at Wimbledon has been ended at the first hurdle by Igor Andreev.

The young Brit recovered from an early break of serve to take the opening set 6-1 in just over 30 minutes.

He continued to show good form with his service games in the second set, as did Andreev. Neither player was able to find a break and so a tie-breaker was required to determine a winner.

The Russian took control of the breaker early on and went on to record a 7-4 success without allowing Golding to stamp his mark on the encounter.

The third set went on to mirror the second, meaning that another tie-breaker was reached. On this occasion both players went up with mini-breaks as the lead changed hands on three occasions.

Golding was first to reach set point, but he spurned the opportunity by committing a double-fault. Andreev went on to take full advantage by serving out for a 9-7 win.

The fourth set appeared to be heading for another breaker as the scores were level at five games apiece. However, having held his serve to open up a 6-5 lead, Andreev made the most of two double-faults from Goulding to seal his route into round two.

It was only the second time that Andreev had managed to break 18-year-old Goulding during the whole match.
