Tomas Berdych books his place in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon with a hard-fought win against Bernard Tomic.

Tomas Berdych has booked his place in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon with a hard-fought 7-6(4) (5)6-7 6-4 6-4 win over Bernard Tomic.

Both players were impressive on their own serve during the first set, with only Berdych having a chance to break.

The Czech squandered two break points in the seventh game before losing a set point with the scores at 6-6, as Tomic forced a tie-break that Berdych won 7-4.

The second set followed a similar pattern as break points were few and far between, the players having two each that they were unable to take advantage of as it went to another tie-break.

Tomic was more successful in this one, clinching the set at the third time of asking by winning the tie-break 7-5.

The first break of the match came for Berdych in the third game of the third set, but Tomic hit back immediately with a break of his own to restore parity.

A mammoth seventh game saw Berdych eventually break Tomic again, and it proved to be a vital one as the Czech player went on to serve out the set, despite losing four set points with the score at 5-3.

Berdych again broke Tomic in the third game of the fourth set before serving out the match, taking the final set 6-4 to secure his place in the quarter-finals.
