The All England Lawn Tennis Club reportedly bans Russian and Belarusian players from taking part at this year's Wimbledon due to the invasion of Ukraine.

Russian and Belarusian players will not be permitted to compete at this year's Wimbledon due to the invasion of Ukraine, according to a report.

Multiple sporting bodies have banned players from the two nations from events this year, although tennis tournaments have seen participants compete as neutrals amid the conflicts in Eastern Europe.

While players from Russia and Belarus are fine to take part in the French Open next month, BBC Sport reports that the All England Lawn Tennis Club has banned them from competing at Wimbledon.

The report adds that the AELTC should confirm the news at some point on Wednesday, with the Grand Slam tournament taking place from 27 June to 10 July.

World number two Daniil Medvedev - who reached the fourth round last year - and fellow ATP top-10 star Andrey Rublev will be affected by the ban, although the latter did write an anti-war message on a camera screen in February's Dubai Tennis Championships.

Women's fourth seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus will therefore not get the opportunity to better her semi-final appearance from 2021, while 15th-seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia is also set to miss out.
