Marin Cilic has made it through to the fourth round of the US Open with a four-set victory over Kei Nishikori at Flushing Meadows.
The Croatian 12th seed comfortably won the opening two sets 6-3 6-4 to put himself in control against the Japanese 17th seed.
Nishikori showed more fight in the third, but failed to take four break points as it went to a tie-break. It mattered little though as he came out on top 7-3 to get himself back in contention.
However, Cilic proved too much in the fourth and broke serve once to win 6-3.
Next up for Cilic is a last-16 encounter with either Martin Klizan or Jeremy Chardy.
