Retired Andy Roddick wished "good luck" for US Open during "awkward" exchange

Andy Roddick is wished "good luck" for the US Open in the streets of New York despite retiring three years ago.

Former US Open champion Andy Roddick was wished "good luck" for the tournament this morning, despite being retired.

The 33-year-old, who won the Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in 2003, walked away from the sport three years ago.

However, while taking a stroll in New York, the American was given backing from a passer-by who was unaware that the sportsman was no longer playing.

On Twitter, Roddick wrote: "That awkward moment when you're walking down the street in NYC and someone says 'good luck in the tournament'."

The final Grand Slam of the year got underway on Monday.
