Jo-Wilfried Tsonga eases past Florian Mayer

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga advances through to the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters after defeating Florian Mayer in straight sets.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has defeated Florian Mayer in straight sets to progress through to the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

The number seven seed outclassed his German opponent to earn a 6-2 6-3 victory in just over an hour

The 28-year-old broke Mayer's serve twice during a one-sided opening set as the world number 50 struggled with the Frenchman's power from the baseline.

Mayer started the second set in improved fashion, but Tsonga soon found his range to book a last-four spot against either Novak Djokovic or Gael Monfils.
