Andy Murray has admitted that he was pleased to come through his "scrappy" encounter with Radek Stepanek in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

The recently-crowned US Open champion had to see off the Czech world number 41 4-6 6-2 6-3 to book his place in the last four.

"It was quite a scrappy first couple of sets, but obviously the second set I managed to get a break, got a bit of momentum," said the Brit.

"I dictated a majority of the points at the end of the match and I needed to because he was playing with a lot of variety, making it hard for me."

Murray will now take on world number one Roger Federer for a place in Sunday's final.
