John Isner has edged past Milos Raonic in a battle of the big servers at the Rogers Cup.
The American giant needed a mammoth tie-break to take the first set, finally prevailing 10-8 to take first set by seven games to six.
Raonic tried to force a comeback in the second set, cheered on by an expectant home crowd.
Despite a strong start Raonic eventually faded, being broken to love by Isner in a crucial game to lose the match in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.
Isner now advances to the semi-finals to play Richard Gasquet, who needed three sets to beat Mardy Fish earlier today.
