Sixth seed Samantha Stosur came back from the brink of elimination to overcome Chanelle Scheepers 2-6 7-5 6-2.
The 28-year-old South African, who has overcame 25th seed Anabel Medina in round two, stormed through the opening set, claiming two breaks of serve and winning all of her service games without contest.
After finding herself a double-break down in the second, Stosur finally came alive.
With Scheepers serving for the match, a combination of deep baseline hitting and brave net play earned the Australian an unlikely route back into the match, as she swiftly claimed five consecutive games to force a deciding set.
Unseeded Scheepers looked to be both physically and mentally drained following her second-set capitulation and Stosur took full advantage, as she cruised through final set.
Stosur will now face 13-time singles Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in round four.
