Andy Murray stuns Rafael Nadal in Madrid final

Andy Murray wins his second clay-court title in a week by beating Rafael Nadal in straight sets at the Madrid Masters.

Andy Murray has beaten Rafael Nadal in a clay-court final for the first time to win the Madrid Masters.

The Scot, who won his first tournament on clay last week, beat the former world number one in straight sets, 6-3 6-2 to take the title.

Murray pressured Nadal on his first service game, forcing the nine-time French Open champion into early unforced errors as he immediately broke.

The Olympic champion opened up a 4-2 lead, but needed to dig deep to stop Nadal getting back on serve. The Mallorcan brought up two break points before ceding the game to Murray.

In the end, Nadal's unforced errors and Murray's confident groundstrokes allowed the Briton to wrap up the first set in front of a stunned Spanish crowd.

Murray, who beat Kei Nishikori in Saturday's semi-final, showed little sign of letting his opponent off the hook and broke again on Nadal's first two service games of the second set, opening up a 4-0 lead.

Nadal continued to battle and finally held his own serve, but the Spaniard repeatedly left his groundstrokes short as Murray pounced and moved within sight of the title.

The Spaniard, dubbed the 'King of Clay', tried to manufacture a break of his own to keep the final alive, but Murray was able to wrap up the set 6-2 for his second title in a week.
