Grigor Dimitrov wins Rome opener

Grigor Dimitrov sees off Jerzy Janowicz to reach the second round of the Rome Open.

Grigor Dimitrov reached the second round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome earlier today thanks to a 6-3 7-6[4] victory over Jerzy Janowicz.

The 10th-seeded Bulgarian broke Janowicz midway through the opening set, which he claimed in 31 minutes.

The second set was much more evenly contested and as a result, a tie-breaker was required, with Dimitrov coming out on top to wrap up the match against the former Wimbledon semi-finalist.

He will now face either Fabio Fognini or Steve Johnson for a place in round three.
