Germany's Florian Mayer will play Mardy Fish in round two of the Paris Masters after recording a 7-5 6-3 win over Radek Stepanek earlier today.
The world number 22 took just over an hour to wrap up the victory, having capitalised on Stepanek's failure to find any consistent rhythm.
His next opponent, world number eight Fish, received a bye in the opening round because he is currently in the top-16 ranked players in the world.
The pair are due to meet on Wednesday.
