Serena Williams has described winning her first WTA Tour match since the birth of her child as an "incredible" feeling.
Playing solo for the first time in 14 months, the American defeated Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas 7-5 6-3 at Indian Wells.
"It was incredible. It's been over a year and a kid later," BBC Sport quotes Williams as saying after the game. "I'm just out here on this journey doing the best I can.
"I'm a little rusty but it doesn't matter. It definitely wasn't easy but it was good."
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion will take on 29th-seeded Dutch player Kiki Bertens in round two.
