Sabine Lisicki breaks serve speed record

Germany's Sabine Lisicki hits the fastest ever serve on the WTA tour at 131mph during a match against Ana Ivanovic of Serbia.

World number 29 Sabine Lisicki has broken the record for the fastest serve during a WTA match in her defeat to Ana Ivanovic in Stanford.

The 2013 Wimbledon finalist fired a 131mph delivery to the former world number one, which was later confirmed as a record by the WTA and SportsMEDIA Technology.

The German's serve beats the previous best of 129mph set by five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams during the 2007 US Open.

Ivanovic, who prevented the serve going for an ace but failed to keep her return in, went on to win the match 7-6 6-1.
