Agnieszka Radwanska has succumbed to defeat against Jelena Jankovic, who has reached the Italian Open semi-finals with a 6-4 6-4 victory.
Jankovic got off to a bright start in Rome by breaking Radwanska at the first time of asking before immediately holding to take an early advantage in the contest.
From that point on, games went by the way of serve, but Radwanska came achingly close to grabbing a break of her own in a game that stood at deuce five times.
However, Jankovic was able to hold and see out the set to take a crucial lead on the clay court.
It was a tight affair once again in the second set, but it was Radwanska who finally found her first break point of the match. The momentum didn't last long as Jankovic instantly broke back.
The Polish pro took Jankovic to the limit in her next service game, but once again the 29-year-old stood firm to keep games level on 4-4.
Despite some impressive shots from Radwanska, it was Jankovic who secured another vital break of serve to push on and win the match.
