Simona Halep ousts Andrea Petkovic to reach French Open final

Simona Halep sees off Andrea Petkovic in straight sets to meet Maria Sharapova in the French Open final.

It was the perfect start for Halep as she broke her opponent's serve at the first time of asking before holding and taking a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Petkovic failed to fight back into the clash as she lost another service game, which allowed Halep to push on and grab a one-set lead.

The second set began as a tighter affair with games going by the way of serve, but it was Petkovic who grabbed the first break of the set on the clay court.

However, her dominance was short-lived as Halep immediately responded by breaking back and then drawing the set level on three games.

Halep continued to push for a further break point, but Petkovic held firm to take the set to a tie-break, which resulted in both competitors losing their opening serves.

Despite Petkovic's effort, Halep fought back to clinch the tie-break 7-4 and put herself in contention for the title at Roland Garros against Maria Sharapova.
