Stanislas Wawrinka through to Australian Open final

Stanislas Wawrinka beats Tomas Berdych in four sets to move through to the Australian Open final.

Stanislas Wawrinka has defeated Tomas Berdych in four sets to move through to the Australian Open final.

The first two sets were shared before Wawrinka edged two tie-breaks to secure his place in Sunday's final with a 6-3 6-7 7-6 7-6 triumph.

Wawrinka had produced the performance of his career in the quarter-finals to beat Novak Djokovic, and the Swiss began the match with a confidence that suggested that he was ready to capitalise on that achievement.

However, after losing the first set, Berdych composed himself to dominate a second-set tie-break to square the match, and he appeared in the ascendancy going into the second half of the match.

The final two sets were dominated by serve, but Wawrinka held his nerve during two tense breakers to seal his spot in his first Grand Slam final.

He will face either Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer on Sunday.
