World number two Roger Federer believes that court surfaces should be made faster in order to quicken the tempo of matches.
The Swiss lost in the ATP World Tour final to Novak Djokovic on Monday, with the latter known for his ability to defend long rallies.
"Just make quicker courts, then it's hard to defend. Then attacking style is more important. I think sometimes quicker courts do help the cause. I think it would help from time to time to move to something faster," Federer told reporters.
"That would help players learn different styles, to realise that coming to the net is a good thing, not a bad thing."
The Australian Open will begin in January.
