England forward Maro Itoje has been named the breakthrough player of the year at the World Rugby awards.
The 22-year-old had been up against New Zealand pair Anton Lienert-Brown and Ardie Savea for the award following a memorable year for both club and country.
Itoje won seven caps for England, helping Eddie Jones's side to a Grand Slam and a 3-0 series whitewash of Australia, and also won the European and domestic double with Saracens.
"I'm very humbled, very honoured and very happy to win. I'd like to thank the England team and my club Saracens for all the support I've had," he said after collecting the award.
"I hope there's more to come, I'd be disappointed if I've peaked already. The last 12 months have gone really well, so I can't complain."
Itoje is currently sidelined with a hand injury that is expected to keep him out until December.
