Bayonne sunk by Stade Rochelais

Stade Rochelais secure their first win of the European Rugby Challenge Cup season with a 25-13 victory over Bayonne.

Bayonne have suffered their first defeat in this season's European Rugby Challenge Cup campaign, losing 25-13 in their match against Stade Rochelais this evening.

The hosts took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes when Julien Berger sprinted over for the first try of the night, while Levani Botia found a gap before half time to increase the lead.

Rochelais continued to look the stronger of the two sides in the second half, but Blair Stewart kicked two penalties to keep Bayonne in contention heading into the final 20 minutes.

Jone Qovu Nailiko put the win beyond doubt for the hosts shortly after though, picking up the ball out wide before leaping over in the corner to open up a 19-point advantage.

Pierre Sayerse scored a late consolation try for the visitors, but it was not enough for them to build on the winning start that they made to this competition last week.
