Juan Imhoff scores hat-trick as Argentina beat South Africa in Rugby Championship

Juan Imhoff scores a hat trick as Argentina beat South Africa 37-25 in the Rugby Championship in Durban.

Argentina beat South Africa 37-25 in the Rugby Championship thanks to a Juan Imhoff hat-trick to secure their first ever win over the Springboks this afternoon.

Argentina scored almost straight away when Imhoff broke away from the back of a lineout before offloading to Marcelo Bosch to go over for the try. Juan Martin Hernandez kicked the conversion as well as the following one, after Imhoff went over for his first try following great work from Tomas Cubelli.

Pollard kicked a couple of penalties before Imhoff got his second of the afternoon, going over on the blindside following another dominant Argentina scrum. Hernandez again kicked the resulting conversion.

South Africa hit back after Lood de Jager peeled off a rolling maul to cross the line. Pollard was again successful with the conversion before Hernandez kicked a penalty to extend his side's lead. Bosch then kicked a long-range penalty on the stroke of half time.

Imhoff scored his hat trick two minutes into the second half. Hernandez took a controversial quick tap with medics still on the pitch and the Argentine winger went over in the corner.

Hernandez again converted before Willie le Roux attacked a high ball before racing away to score. Pollard added the extra two points but Hernandez hit back with a drop goal.

Cobus Reinach had a try disallowed as the Africans gained some composure, before Bryan Habana snuck in in the corner to score. Pat Lambie missed the conversion but it was too little too late for the Springboks.

Argentina's next match will be a World Cup warm-up match against South Africa on August 15.
